A local icon passes the baton

I stopped watching TV news a long time ago but, on the rare occasion that I want to catch up on something local, I go to KTVU 10:00 news.  I choose that news show for one reason:  news anchor Dennis Richmond, who is an island of dignity in a sea of silly, and has been for 36 years.  Sadly, though, he won’t be there after this week, since he’s retiring.  His departure from the scene will ensure that TV news becomes an ever vaster wasteland.

(By the way, given Richmond’s dignity, I wasn’t surprised to read in the news story about his retirement that he is a military vet and that he admires law enforcement.  This is no scatty, anti-establishment Bay Area nut.  He seems to be a person of substance.)
